FAQs

Common questions we get about our Aged Care Exercise Physiology.

  • How can Exercise Physiology help me?

Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) are nationally recognised allied health professionals who design and deliver clinical

exercise interventions to prevent and manage chronic health conditions.

Exercise prescription is individualised and based on the needs and abilities of the person.

Over 70% of Australia’s AEPs work with older Australians to help optimise health, function and mobility, as well as foster independence and self-efficacy with exercise and social inclusion.

As university qualified allied health professionals, AEPs are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and competencies to design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions for people with:

    • Complex conditions
    • Dementia
    • Disabilities
    • Mental health conditions
    • Painful injuries
    • Falls history

We are proud of our history of working with older Australians, and rely on a network of supportive people who bring a deep understanding of more complex health needs.

We believe that exercise can enable older Australians to maintain their health, well-

    being, and independence for longer.

  • How can I receive funding for Aged Care Exercise Physiology?

Funding for Exercise Physiologists services in residential aged care can be funded in three ways:

    1. By individual residents claiming up to five sessions through a Medicare Chronic Disease

Management plan. Visit the Medicare website or speak to your GP for details.

    2. By claiming residential care subsidies for each permanent resident at the aged care facility via the Aged Care Funding Instrument (ACFI), once individual Medicare sessions are exhausted. Visit the Department of Health website for details.

    3. By employing or contracting an accredited Exercise Physiologist for the aged care facility.

I would like to say that I really enjoy attending my sessions with Eleni as she is welcoming, focused on getting the best result for my changing and challenging physical needs and does so in an empathetic manner. Laughter and music are integral to time spent with Eleni at Activate, which raises my spirits and makes me feel included in this community.

Chris - Olivia's Client

From our very first consultation, Olivia demonstrated a deep understanding of exercise physiology, tailoring a personalised program that addressed my specific needs and goals. Her expertise was evident as she explained the science behind each exercise, making me feel not just physically engaged but also mentally connected to my fitness program.

Irene - Nadunie's Client

I am incredibly grateful for the expertise and personal care provided by Nadunie and the rest of the team. Their tailored strength and weight loss training program, designed specifically for managing my pre-diabetes and menopausal issues, has been transformative. With their support, I’ve not only witnessed significant improvements in my physical strength and stamina but also noticed positive changes in my mind.

Lily - Quinton's Client

After working with Quinton for three months, I have been pleasantly surprised at what this discipline can deliver! I certainly wasn't expecting early or quick improvements. Quinton always checks to see how my energy levels are coping and if a short break is needed. Our 'face-to-face' sessions are varied, educational and entertaining, at times challenging but never boring.

Ben De Jong - Anthony's Client

Anthony Lieu has become known to me as an affable young man. I admire his skills and competence in treating my wife for about three months, several times weekly. She has shown considerable progress, and she responds well to his skill and encouragement. I recommend him as a Professional Exercise Physiologist.

Kristy - Aislinn's Client

Activate is a friendly and welcoming community. Both the trainers and other clients are supportive and encouraging of each other. All the staff are well trained, professional and passionate about what they do. I have been training with Aislinn for a few months now, and she creates a fun and enjoyable program. She gets the best out of me during my sessions (even on those early mornings).
